Daughter of Jonathan and Mary-Anne Huds. She is pureblood Pride magician.
She lived her first 6 years, while she had no magic developed yet, with her parents, mostly raised by her mother, though her work also had her stay late. She was quiet and calm, never making trouble for baby-sitters. She was looking forward to her sibling, and was quite thrown off when her mother died at birth, and her father put her into a foster house.
All she could remember is that he decided he would pursue his dream of being a fighter, and would only take the child he deemed capable of being caught up alongside him. She was not aware of John's different soul, and took it as personal offence, and when she could, she trained until she could start fighting at earliest age she could. She took a new name, Harriet Taylor, not wishing to be associated with her family name anymore
She was an efficient fighter and rose fast through the ladder ranks, and by adulthood, was having troubles finding fair matches. She would complain and be frustrated, but eventually found other hobbies and studies to pay attention to, like honouring her magical heritage, and studying how to use her magical abilities efficiently. She learned the calls and spells and wondered where she could learn more. There were not many easily accessible teachers or tutors, not with her living from only fighting money.
She found herself easily perfecting magic of manipulating time, and found that her previous free time was not enough, and would travel into the past, to simply spend free time studying and researching magic and how it correlates with biology and human body.
She needed subjects to study, and her trigger finger for time travel made her decide to attempt to study her family, and travelled back to find out her suspicions about her birth surname were true. She was one of the Huds Royal Family, and travelled back to very early generations of the royals, earning herself position as advisor, and found out about the genetic disease that was there from beginning with this family.
She also found out they were extremely bent on keeping the soulline clean, and would marry only pure-blood Pride magicians, and still only had children within the family. They married to keep up the appearances, but Harriet was terrified to find out most of her family's history had been plagued with in-family breeding.
She wondered whether the disease was related, and lived a decade or so in each generation of the Huds royals, entering as the advisor, occasionally medical advisor, until the generation of her grandfather Edward Huds.
She tried to reassure herself about the disease knowing her mother was not part of the family, but eventually came to the conclusion she must also be part of the family.
Unaware of it herself, the Hudses also had special plan for her. In the first generation she visited, the Pride soul was still capable of weak and very limited mind-reading, but it was there nevertheless. Through the years, they had been planting a thought into her mind, a goal or ambition that she was not capable of saying out loud, or even thinking of clearly in case a magician would be looking at her mind, that would cleanse the family of the unpure soul - her brother. This would be one of the factors she would be willing to act as a General.
When she returned to her real timeline, her mind was overdone with the information of lived decades, through which she did not age a year. She eventually found comfort in a man called Dante. She did not plan on letting the relationship get deeper, as she had plans and visions for her body, and was working on a way to make herself capable of having children.
One trait that seems to be consistent with magicians, but is hard to observe, is that they are not born sterile. There is never a healthy magician that is not able to have children. But just like many humans can have children, it is not a sure way to separate people into either category.
Through various tests, on herself, with her partner, and with magic enhancing her medical knowledge, she has come to conclusion that only another powerful magician could make it happen.
Much to her dismay, Dante has proposed to her, and she only agreed if he'd promise they'd take long time to prepare and plan for the wedding she hoped she would not see.
In the end, the conditioning and knowledge she's brought back into her time, from the ages before when she met with her family and ancestors, what would be called Civil War between the fighters/soldiers and regular people started, and she became a General in her region, Livetell. The war was to spread to rest of the world, but got squished, to her failure, in Livetell, thanks to her brother.
During this war, she met her now grown, adult brother, and saw him using his magic recklessly, overdoing it, leaving visible marks of it behind, and seeing its true color: blue, the color of Lust. She could not bring herself to kill him, despite all her impulses put into her brain by her ancestors, and helped him. She folded easily, and willingly. After it was done, she moved to his house, which half belonged to her. Dante, for all she knew, died during the war.
Above is her story written out until the start of second book, where she first appears.
